Crazychic1990 - I don't think chopping off an arm would help you play this Etude - Maybe growing an extra one might help! haha.
This etude has been described as the greatest one for developing finger technique.
It is said that Chopin himself was stretched to his technical limits to play it.
The fingers have to play at high speed in very cramped positions.
Two good preliminary exercises to play are numbers 7 and 7a of Brahms 51 exercises for the piano,an indispensable book for the pianist.

I've looked down through the comments and can only add that Valentina is a consistently fantastic pianist. We've watched her rehearsing and at concerts; she can fly through pieces like this as an encore if it takes her fancy. Her repertoire is very wide and she can turn on any part of it like a tap. Not actually an alien - merely superhuman :)

Im learning that 1 too. My teacher says 1, 2 and 3 fingers must be free all the time not "thinking note per note" it must be thought like a group. Specially in compass 2, 10, 18 etc (same figures). It's difficult to explain here so i think a teacher is broadly necessary. Luck with etude.
