Actually this song is about him and his old girlfriend. all she ever wanted him to do was drive her around and one time he asked her if all he was to her was her "vehicle." so thats what this song is about.

"Vehicle" hit Billboard as their only charting song and went to number #2 on 04/11/70, one day after The Beatles announced their breakup on 04/10/70. "Hold On Loosely"-"Caught Up In You"-"Fantasy Girl"-"Rockin' Into The Night"-"Chained Lightning"-"Rebel To Rebel" to name a few hits and strong lp cuts from .38 Special that Jim Peterik co-wrote...

Jim wrote in in High School...Recorded at 16 and was a part of the "Chicago Sound" that came from the bands like "Chicago", "Ides Of March" and anything James Williams Geurcio came into contact with.. Though he found "Blood,Sweat&Tears" in NYC, they were his first success with the brass ladden sound. His earlier pop productions did have that brass! "The Buckinghams" come to mind in his Chicago area stable.... Jim went on to help form Chicago's "Survivor" and wrote songs for "38 Special"...
